This book of the bible is frequently and
erroneously
referred to as the start of "The Church, The Body of Christ".
99.44% of fundamental, bible-believing teachers and pastors
embrace this falsity as truth! The fact is, The Book of Acts is
primarily about the unbelief of Israel and God's postponement of
her program. |
|
These books of the bible are where believers in this dispensing
of God's grace should go for their day-to-day doctrine on
living. These books contain the revelation of the mystery,
otherwise known as the gospel of Jesus Christ. |

For though
I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity
is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the
gospel! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward:
but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is
committed unto me. What is my reward then? Verily that,
when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ
without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

1 For this cause I Paul, the
prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2 If ye have heard of
the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to
you-ward: 3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the
mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4 Whereby, when ye
read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as
it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the
Spirit; 6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the
same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the
grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his
power. 8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is
this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the
unsearchable riches of Christ; 9 And to make all men see what is
the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the
world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus
Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and
powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the
manifold wisdom of God, 11 According to the eternal purpose
which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: 12 In whom we have
boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. 13
Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my
tribulations for you, which is your glory -

The Hall of Faith
and the faithful
members of God's Inductees! - Part V
This is the
fifth part in a series of studies that will investigate members
of The Hall of Faith. Hebrews 11 is an
astounding chapter that gives us detailed information on those
saints who took God at His Word without seeing a clear picture
of what would lie ahead for them. Let me first say that under
this wonderful dispensing of God's grace, there is no expression
of faith required for us since Jesus Christ has accomplished
everything we need! Unlike the saints that we will read about,
an expression of faith or action was indeed required of them in
their response to God's commands.
Hebrews
11:14-16
-
These all died
in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off,
and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were
strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare
plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of
that [country] from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to
have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly:
wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared
for them a city.
As we continue our series describing the heroes of the “Hebrews Hall of
Faith”, one may ask about verse 14. More specifically, who are the
“these all” who died in faith? We must remember who has been discussed up
until this point:
-
Abel
-
Enoch
-
Noah
-
Abraham
-
Sarah (through Abraham)
-
Isaac
-
Jacob
-
Joseph
-
Moses
30 By faith
the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
By faith in the One,
True and Living God of Israel, the walls of Jericho fell down after they
were compassed about seven days. What an awesome testimony of the power of
God amidst the thousands of "little gods" that the nations had trusted in!
The bible tells us that these "gods' were made by human hands and had eyes
that could not see, ears that could not hear and mouths that could not
speak.
By faith, Joshua led
the charge around Jericho as the Lord had instructed him to do so.
So the people
shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when
the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a
great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into
the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. -
Joshua 6:20
Friends, we can
develop several, separate studies based on this miracle alone. But the fact
of the matter is that Joshua took God at His word, followed His instruction
and God as always delivered as He said he would. Those that identified
themselves with faithful Joshua were partakers of his blessings as the God's
ambassador to lead Israel (after the death of Moses).
Another interesting
note is that there was someone else who demonstrated great faith as part of
this overall miracle of God:
31 By faith
the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had
received the spies with peace.
Back in chapter 2 of
the book of Joshua, two spies were sent out from Shittim where Israel was
dwelling at the time. These spies were sent to Jericho by Joshua. However,
the king of Jericho knew that the spies were somewhere in the city and
inquired of Rahab to there whereabouts.
2 And it was told
the king of Jericho,
saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel
to search out the country. 3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab,
saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into
thine house: for they be come to search out all the country. 4 And the woman
took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I
wist not whence they were: 5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting
of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I
wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. -
Joshua 2:2-5
Rather than turn
them in to face certain death, Rahab feared the God of Israel and hid the
spies in the stalks of flax which she laid in order upon the roof. After
further examination of this wonderful story highlighted in our study of
Hebrews 11, we see that Rahab expressed her faith by an outward action. She
did not express herself out of "blind faith" but simply acted upon all that
was required of her by God to the saving of her household!
9
And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land,
and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of
the
land faint because of you. 10 For we have heard how
the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of
Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were
on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 11
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts
did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of
you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed
you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and
give me a true token: 13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my
mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver
our lives
from death.
-
Joshua 2:2-5
To review how God changes the salvation requirements of man
please recall that we (under grace) are saved through a change of mind which should
change our deeds, but under previous dispensings when God
dealt with man and as in this example of Rahab, faith resulted in actions as
in the following previously discussed examples:
-
Abel brought the sacrifice that God required and testified to his
righteousness unto his own death.
-
Enoch walked and had fellowship with God which was known by all at that
time especially when they could not find him!
-
Noah being warned of God, moved with fear and built the ark.
-
Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac knowing nothing more than trusting in
God's word.
-
Sarah (through Abraham) believed that God could give her a son judging
him to be faithful according to His promises!
-
Jacob having a good
report of God and unbelieving men, blessed the sons of Joseph leaning
upon the top of his staff (barely able but important enough to stand!)
-
Joseph prior to his death
expressed his faith in response to God in that before he died and
despite being almost the highest ranking official in Egypt, his desire
was to be buried (therefore identified) in the promised land and with
the people who worshiped the One, True and Living God of Israel!
-
Moses although one of the
highest and most powerful rulers in the land refused to be identified
with Egypt. But instead suffered with his own people "esteeming the
reproach of Messiah" and His promises above the temporal riches at hand!
-
Those believers of God
collectively demonstrated their faith when they followed Joshua who
obeyed God and overthrew Jericho by compassing about the outer walls.
-
Rahab heard of the
miracles of God and was moved with fear. She hid the spies with peace in
her motives and although a Gentile identified herself with the Nation of
Israel and the One, True and Living God it served!
-
Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthae,
David and other saints who through outward expressions testified of
their faith in God
32 And what shall I more say? for the
time would fail me to
tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also,
and Samuel, and of the prophets:

1 Thessalonians
4:14-18 -
14 For if we believe
that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in
Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by
the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto
the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and
the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive
and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds,
to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the
Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Colossians 2:16-29
- 16 For by him were
all things created,
that are in heaven,
and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones,
or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by
him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things
consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the
beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have
the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross,
by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they
be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime
alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he
reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you
holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23 If ye continue
in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope
of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every
creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister; 24
Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is
behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake,
which is the church: 25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the
dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of
God; 26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from
generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God
would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among
the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28 Whom we
preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we
may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 29 Whereunto I also
labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Today's World News

Philippi -
The saints at
Philippi had the same concerns as many Christians do today concerning
what they should pray for and what to expect in response from God. The
very subject of prayer has caused arguments and divisions between many
believers. Let's examine what Paul had to say about this topic when he
wrote to the faithful at Philippi.....
Starting
in verse 3 of the 1st Chapter, Paul
tells these dear saints of his prayer of thanks to God for them.
He gives thanks for their fellowship being confident that
whatever Christ has started in the lives of these saints would
be completed through him (verse 6)! Paul continues
in verse 8 when he speaks of how he longed to see
his dear friends and prays that their love may abound more and
more in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. in the Greek, Paul uses
several words that are noteworthy. One word: perisseuo
{per-is-syoo'-o} for "abound" means "to exceed a fix number of
measure". Through the Holy Spirit, Paul chose this word when
speaking of His prayer to God on behalf the the Philippians. He
wanted their knowledge to exceed beyond measure. More important
is the Greek word to Paul used to describe "knowledge".
The word epignosis {ep-ig'-no-sis} transcends above what
we would think knowledge alone would indicate. Here, this
knowledge is not merely academic but instead divine, perfect and
complete
"knowledge" and it is what Paul uses on many occasions in
describing all that we have available to us! Friends, we have
perfect and complete knowledge of God's word through the
guidance and council of the Holy Spirit.
In verse
10, he prays that they may approve (examine and test
what they have heard) things that are excellent and that
they be sincere without offense until the day of Christ occurs
all the while being filled with the fruits of righteousness
which are by Jesus Christ. Please understand that these are
statements and not something we work for friends; it is a given
we have the fruits of righteousness and that we are without
offense in Christ Jesus!
In
Chapter 4, Paul specifically tells us what he received
from the risen Lord Jesus Christ concerning prayer. In
verse 4 he tells us to always rejoice. Next he tells us
to let our moderation or gentleness be evident among men for the
Lord is coming soon.
In verse
6, Paul tells us not to worry about what we bring to
God. There is no need to be careful in what you discuss with God
beloved! He already knows about it but wants to discuss it with
you through His word regardless! With all prayer, supplication
(need) and thankfulness let your requests be made known unto
God. What will be the result you may ask?
And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus.
God's peace
which passes all of man's understanding shall be kept in our
inner most part as well as our mind through Jesus Christ!
Although we may not understand God's plan for us concerning the
issues of life, He does.
One may ask,
how then practically speaking can we accomplish this? Paul gives
us this answer too friends.
In verse
8 he tells us to think upon 6 things:
-
Whatsoever things are true
- truthfulness itself and / or those who love the truth
-
Whatsoever things are
honest - honorable; venerated for character / person or deeds
-
Whatsoever things are just
- righteousness, innocent, faultless, guiltless; those things approved
or acceptable by God
-
Whatsoever things are pure
- clean, pure from carnality, chaste, modest
-
Whatsoever things are
lovely - remember 1 Corinthians 13!
-
Whatsoever things are of
good report - sounding well, good words
The apostle tells us we
have learned, received, heard and seen these things in his Godly
testimony. But notice how he again reminds us how the God of peace
shall be with you if through the strength of Jesus Christ we can put
this into our lives!
"I
can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" Philippians 4:13

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I
write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord
so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and
safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a
woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not
in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all
the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the
night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but
let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and
they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of
the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for
an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to
wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for
us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

The
Gospel of the Grace
of God:
-
God’s Son Jesus Christ died
on the cross for all
of
your sin (past, present and future), He was buried, and gloriously
rose again for your justification (1 Cor. 15:1-4)!
-
Not only did Christ die for
the debt and penalty of your sin but at the moment you take God The
Father at His Word concerning the finished and all-sufficient
cross-work of Christ His Son, you take on
His (Christ’s) very righteousness
(justification) Rom. 3:21-26!
-
As a result of just
simply believing the above (1 Cor. 15), God The Holy
Spirit tabernacles in you,
forever (Eph.1:13) until we die (to be with Christ) or
meet Him in the air (1 Thes 4:16-20).
-
No strings attached, no
outward expression of faith, no
incremental forgiveness since
it was taken care of all
up front, no kidding!

Christians - By Maya Angelou
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean living."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."
When I say. "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I’m a failure
And trusted God to clean my mess.
When I say.. "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow! |

Faith, Hope and Love
"And
now abideth faith, hope, love, these three, but the
greatest of these is love" (I Cor. 13:13).
St. Paul had been discussing, in I Cor. 13, some of the
miraculous signs that were to vanish away as God’s
revelation became complete. But faith, hope and love, he
declared, would abide as a triune evidence of true
Christianity.
These three are all we need in the present "dispensation
of the grace of God." Any church where faith, hope and
love are found in abundant measure is a "full" church.
It may have but a few members, but what greater blessing
could it wish for than faith, hope and love in its
fellowship?
Faith, hope and love are a trinity often referred to in
St. Paul’s epistles. Each is of basic importance in its
way, and none can exist without the other two.
Faith is of primary importance. "Without faith it is
impossible to please [God]" (Heb 11:6), and how can
there be hope and love without faith?
Hope holds the central place among the three. Hope in
the Bible is more than a wish; it is the opposite of
despair, an eager anticipation of blessings to come.
Hope is the Christian’s experience, his living with
eternity’s glory in view.
Love is the crowning virtue of the three; it is the
fruit of faith and hope, and is greatest in the sense
that it is "the bond of perfectness." Moreover, love is
eternal. Some day, for every true believer, "faith will
vanish into sight; hope be emptied in delight" and love
will reign supreme.
May God help us, in our fellowship with each other, to
evidence a full measure of faith, hope and love.

The Seventh from Adam
by Paul M. Sadler, President of
Berean Bible Society
"And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these,
saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his
saints." - Jude 14
About two weeks prior to teaching the Dispensation of
Conscience in my Dispensational Survey class at the Berean
Bible Institute, I raised the following question to the
student body. What is the significance of Enoch being
addressed as "the seventh from Adam"? The entire class drew
a blank -- they were stumped!! Although it may seem rather
insignificant at first glance, the Holy Spirit has added
this phrase for good reason. In fact, this phraseology is
only used in reference to Enoch.
A number of the students gave some thought to the matter and
even ventured a couple of explanations, which were true, but
not the answer I was looking for. Finally, one student
eventually got two or three hints out of me and came up with
the answer. Upon arriving at the fourth and fifth chapters
of the Book of Genesis, I explained to the class that there
were two Enoch's before the days of the
great flood. Therefore, we must carefully distinguish
between the Enoch who descended from Cain, and the Enoch who
was the "seventh from Adam" (Gen. 4:16-18 cf. 5:22-24). The
first Enoch walked in the way of Cain -- his descendants
were morally bankrupt.
God would have us follow the example of Enoch, the seventh
from Adam, who walked in the way of faith. Thus "Enoch was
translated that he should not see death; and was not found
[implying everyone
searched for him], because God had translated him: for
before his translation he had this testimony, that he
pleased God" (Heb. 11:5). In addition, the path of
the coming Redeemer would pass through Enoch, the seventh
from Adam, not Cain's Enoch (Gen. 3:15). So then, a
seemingly insignificant phrase suddenly helps us better
appreciate that:
"All
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness" - II Timothy 3:16

Hall of faith (continued)
The author of Hebrews is simply asking a rhetorical question starting in
verse 32. There would not be enough time to describe the great things
God performed using men of faith as His ambassadors.
33 Who through faith subdued
kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths
of lions.
34 Quenched the violence of fire,
escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed
valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Through faith these men and women conquered kingdoms in the sake of
righteousness, obtained promises of God and even stopped the mouths of
lions!
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel 4) extinguished the "violence of
fire" through faith knowing that God would deliver them.
Many
events involving Old Testament saints who barely escaped the sword and
were delivered victories at war by God Himself were recorded in the
bible (Joshua, Gideon Samson and others in the book of Judges)!
35 Women received their dead raised
to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that
they might obtain a better resurrection:
Starting in
1 Kings 17:7
the woman from Zarephath trusted Elijah who was a prophet of God
by making him food first before herself and her son during a time of
great famine. Not only did God replenish the cruise of oil and barrel of
meal but he also resurrected the widows' sick son. Please click on the 1
Kings 17:7 link above for the biblical account!
36 And others had trial of cruel
mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
37 They were stoned, they were sawn
asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in
sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
38 (Of whom the world was not
worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and
caves of the earth.
39 And these all, having obtained a
good report through faith, received not the promise:
Verse 36 could very well be the depiction of Jesus Christ
although the demise of many other prophets could be described in this
way. It is commonly believed among scholars that the first part of
verse 37 speaks of the
account of Isaiah who was sawed in half as a witness of God! These dear
saints wondered throughout their lives making temporary dwellings such
as caves, mountains and tents their homes as they looked for a heavenly
country. This planet was not worthy of those that would reject God's
council, yet they had a good report of mankind and God though faith!
40 God having provided some better
thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
What is left for God to do concerning His great power and how He
involves mankind to show Himself strong? What is left to say? In
verse 40, that question is answered as God Himself through the
person and work Of His Son Jesus Christ provided something better for
all who would simply take God at His word!

"Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus
Christ, Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from
this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father."
3 But
I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his
subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is
in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have
not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not
received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well
bear with him. -
